So another holiday season has started without Josh. I want to say that this one is easier, but actually it's harder. the 2nd year so far everything has been harder. The first year you are expected to take things hard and for there to be struggles. You are in a haze, because you aren't suppose to be 32 and a widow. So now at 33 things are suppose to be a bit easier?? HAHA that's funny.
Also this holiday season marks almost one year of me attempting to work through my grief. I"m starting to relize that I have to be more assertive in what I NEED from people instead of just hoping that will figure it out or think of me first. Year 2 means you aren't the first thought on people's mind, and that's not bad, but it's the truth that no one tells you.
I was very on edge as November approached. If you have followed my blog for while you will remember things started to go down hill for Josh this month. We had to cut out all travel because of swelling in Josh's legs, the chemo stopped working and he tried one last one that had awful side effects. It's also max's birthday, which I always struggle with because i feel like his is always overshadowed by hunting, questionable Wisconsin weather and thanksgiving. Also he doesn't share it with anyone, like Bella's. So while that time didn't go so well for me, this year, Max clearly didn't notice and had a good time. I've since decided to change things for next year to help with my anxiety over this. Praying for a smoother time next year.
Then comes all the family time. I love my family, don't get me wrong, but having to pick and choose who we see since you can only do so much in a little time. Also everyone kind of has broken up into little groups. I miss the large family gatherings. I had them as a child, then they faded out. I was overjoyed to join Josh's family to have those large gatherings, and as members of the family have grown, married, and died, that too has disappeared. I know I can't control it or change it, so learning to accept it is the all i can too. It's a hard bullet to bear. Losing Josh and then loosing time with extended family is a double loss. You have seen the photos of our thanksgiving. We did celebrate with my family and I'll be forever grateful that no matter what happens we still mange to get together for the holidays.
As our vacation time for Thanksgiving winded down, I was emotionally done. I just wanted to hid away, but with kids that's not possible. I forced myself to keep going, we did so much in the days around thanksgiving to create happy memories and traditions. I know that Josh always wanted to do more with the kids, but our lives were spent farming in the middle of no where, which meant it was hard to go and do things. We had our farm traditions, but once we left the farm it was hard to keep up with those. So now in the wake of our new home and Josh gone, we have created new traditions. These keep grief at bay until I'm ready to deal with it. Next up is actual christmas. It's so hard, Our lives at the farm created one holiday, then we moved to the trailer and created a new holiday, but then moving into the house started things all new again. I'll admit last year I was spoiled. It was so nice to be able to have people here christmas morning. That's just one morning I don't want to be on my own, at least not yet, so i'm dreading the day if i am. having other adults here means it's a celebration of a new birth, a wonderful baby, a happy time. If it's just me and the kids, its open presents and play. Yes I know i should be the one to make it's about the celebration, but i'm just lacking, or it's i'm missing the part of me who made the celebration worthwhile.
So the coming weeks will be me forcing a smile, and posting the happy moments. There will be real happy moments, but the dark ones will come out but remain hidden awayfrom the public. I know that both Josh and God are here for me, and I will turn to them in my time of need, but without the physical presences it's very hard.
I will be strong and make it through, one day this will all be easier . I am strong and have faith . Until i get to that point it's and uphill battle. I'm not sure why i was chosen for this role, but hopefully i will be able to prove that i was able to handle the role.

Thanksmas
So our Thanksgiving season has been mashed with an early start to Christmas.
After two short days at school, we went to see the Zoo lights in Madison. it was a bit chilly but we had a great time. We warmed up at the restaurant and the carousel so that worked out perfectly.
If you are near the madison area check out the zoo lights .. totally recommend it.
Then we worked on decorating the tree.
one of best cakes...with real stuffing LOL
These 5 are hard to get a picture of all of them.
Then we took Max and Bella "black friday" shopping..which was really Thursday night.
waiting outside Shopko. Max just didn't understand why we had to wait, he wanted to walk right in.
So this girl wanted a hatchimal from last year, i wasn't going to pay and there were hard to find. This year they were cheap at shopko, which is why we took the kids out. She used her own money to get one and was so exicted to watch it hatch and "grow"
I then turned around at 545am to go stand in line again. When i got our of menards this was the sky i saw.
Aunt Olivia, Grandma, Tim and Great Grandma came over to celebrate Max's birthday. He got lots of hot wheels cars/tracks. He was inheaven. we then worked on making "big tracks"
Since it was warm for this time of year, we wanteded to go to the parade, well mom and max backed out on us, so Bella and I went. We had a good time. She got candy, and hot chocolate. We also saw a some good floats. :)

Max's birthday celebration
Max's birthday celebration started Friday at 2 when we left school early. I knew bad weather was coming and i didn't want to get stuck in it, nor rush hour traffic. Well we did miss the traffic, but not the rain. We stopped at HyVee to let Max pick out a small dessert for his birthday and some snacks to eat while we were at the hotel and traveling.
We arrived at Deer Valley Lodge, unloaded and headed to the pool. when we got there , it was pretty dead, so the kids really enjoyed themselves. They also opened up the slides, which Mr. Max was finally able to go on and was willing to go on. :)
After awhile in the pool we decided to head back the room to eat supper and have cake. Max loved his cake and enjoyed a lot of frosting ;)
Waiting to go into thepool :)
The basketballs were big hits among the kids..so for Max to get two was pretty rare
Water fun before we had to leave
So we left a little earlier then planned so that we could attend a party of Bella's friend from Lancaster. it was at a little roller rink. Bella had a blast with all her friends and Max just enjoyed skating on the carpet, back and forth.
After he party we met up with Grandpa and Grandma Judy for them to see Max on his birthday. it was a short visit, but glad they got to see him open his gifts. we also got the bonus of see the cousins too :) We then we had a quick stopped at the farm before headed to get our xmas pictures done.
after that we headed home to celebrate the rest of max's birthday at home.
His present arrived :)
Forever my favorite status
Aunt Diane came over. the kids play Max's new game from Grandpa and Grandma Judy. They played with Diane while i got the tree up.. since max had asked for it.
My 6 year old boy and the xmas tree :)
