Jahnke family Christmas

So we finally had Jahnke family Christmas last week. Yep only three weeks after Christmas. It was the first weekend that seemed to work for everyone and yet we still missed a few.  It was a pretty low key event. We all had lunch where everyone had a chance to catch up. I was able to connect with some family I haven’t seen in almost a year. We played Jahnke Family bingo and then others played cards.  Bella took a bit to warm up and Max dozed for a bit then didn’t mind bring passed around.

Weekly review: Mid January

I’m so living life again. We are finally back to a normal routine. Don’t get me wrong i still go crazy with our new normal, but nothing big or major is happening, which is good. Winter has officially arrived so we are back to staying in the house pretty much all the time. Bella goes out with Josh for tractor rides or to hang out in the barn since it’ about 40’s in there. I tend to go out during the day for little errands. Max likes to sleep in his car seat if the car is moving. Sometimes i leave Max at home for a short time with Josh and do something with just Bella. Mommy and Bella time is pretty limited these days.  We have been attempting to do more family stuff too, like going with Josh on the hunt for some farm equipment he’s looking for.  Otherwise i spend my days trying to get caught up around the house, Max might be little but he sure has added to my laundry load.

I got out one of the musical toys for max. He loves the lights and the mirror on the side. He was talking to that “other” baby.

Apparently the swing was moving to fast for Max, as he was holding on while napping.

Yes there are cows outside. those are the dry cows. No I don’t like them out there, but their shelter is the trees and they choose to stand waiting to get into the yard. BTW PETA people are trying to make this happen for all our cows in the winter.

jan update 123

Winter anyone?

jan update 120

I’m slowly getting back into cloth diapering. THis diaper was custom made for Max since he’s my little bee. :) thank you Sarah!!

 jan update 121

After a really explosive poopy diaper, Max got a bath. He really enjoyed it this time. I got smart and made sure the only water touching him was from the washcloth. Before his back/butt was getting wet and he wasn’t a fan

I got out the bumbo chair for Max. At first he wasn’t sure, but then he gave me smiles. He lasted a whole 5 mins before he was done.

Max Age 2 months

DSC_0518

Max you are two months old! You weigh about 10.5 lbs and about 22.5 inchs long. Max wears size 1 diapers and 0-3 month clothes. He also moved up to one size cloth diapers and outgrown the newborn cloth diapers

You still have some dark hair that is still thinning on top, but I don't think you will lose it all.

You now sleep anywhere from 4-6 hours at night and then another 2 to 3 after you eat. During the day your naps vary from 30 mins to 3 hours all depending on what we are doing and how much you wanted to eat. You have started to fall asleep on your own after we lay you down. You still sleep the best when you are swaddled, but have taken a few naps with just a blanket. You aren’t a fan of your crib anymore, and that’s partially mommy’s fault for not using it enough.

You eat every 3 hours for the first half of the day and then by 5pm you eat about every hour until bedtime. Your diet is 95% breast milk and 5% formula. You have one formula bottle before bed. You eat about 3-4 oz then.

You have a lot of wake time and you are happy about this now. You started to smile for Mommy around 7 weeks old. In the last week you have started smiling for everything. Your biggest smiles come when you are about to be fed. You like to lay on your back and wiggle around. You have started to munch on your Sophie the giraffe if we put it to your mouth for you. You can hold it there for a bit, then. Mommy set up an area for you to play and you love looking at the mirror there. We do some tummy time every day and you have about 5 mins of it before you declare you are done. As soon as you are on your tummy you are pushing with your feet to move somewhere. You love to stand and really hate to be in the sitting position. Also your bouncy seat is no longer a favorite, but you love the swing.

You love Bella. She can keep you entertained for quite a while. You also give her some of your biggest smiles. But when you are done with her, you surly let us know it.

You still very much are into your daddy. I swear if he could feed you too, you would be with him all the time. You started smiling for him first.

You have celebrated two christmass in the last month and rang in the new year, went to Watertown, Madison and ventured around Iowa with Daddy. You met your Grandma for the first time and your new friend Noah.

You had a check up at the doc’s when you were 6 weeks old. There you were 9.8lbs and 22.5 inchs long. You also got your first round of shots. You actually took them a lot better then i thought you would. We also got you started on reflux medicine and you are such a happy camper now. I have also given up almost all chocolate and 90% of dairy.  Your next visit to the doctor will be at 4 months old. We are hoping to avoid the doctor until then.

A brief look at a normal day

7am:wake up for the day, nurse, change diaper, playtime

8:30-9am: change clothes for the day and Medicine

9:30-12 pm: Morning nap time

12pm: nurse, then some playtime, diaper change

1:30pm: naptime (often the same time as his sister)

3pm:awake, playtime, nurse, diaper change

4pm:nap

5-8pm: Anything can happen but often it’s 20 mins cat naps after nursing and large amounts of awake time and playing with just about everything we have to entertain him with.

8pm we help Bella get ready for bed, Max often gets to hang out in Bella’s bed or does tummy time on her floor

8:30pm: diaper change and Pj’s on and Medicine and night time bottle

9:00pm: after refusing 8:30bottle and a short cat nap, he takes his bottle and often nurse too

9:30-10pm: to sleep

3am to 4:30am: wake up to nurse, then stays awake for a good hour while Daddy tried to get him back to sleep

6/6:30am nurse and back to sleep depending on when he went back to sleep for daddy.

It’s been a busy month but a semi back to normal one. You have really changed a lot in the last month. I see each month getting to be more and more interesting as you grow and start to interact more with us.

Snow and Packers

Sunday, the weather started to look a bit better. So i attempted to venture out with Max to let him experience snow for the first time. yeah that didn’t go over very well. He was just not a happy camper in general.

 jan update 089

He wasn’t liking the snow by any means. Maybe if Bella would have been with him. Also he was overall cranky before we went outside.

jan update 090

This is what he did once we got in the house!

Then that night, after Daddy had spend all afternoon doing chores, we made homemade pizza. Then for a treat we took it downstairs to eat it. We sat in front of the TV to watch the most depressing Packer Game of the season.

Naturally he spit up on his packer shirt that said “if the packers are playing i’m not napping”.. He stayed awake for the whole game!

A visit from Nana and Road trip

So after the snow came, Nana came to visit.  We hit up Lancaster for lunch and a trip to Pamida. They were having some good clearance sales so I got some good deals! Max did really good too and slept the whole time. Then we came home and Bella and Nana got to hang out doing puzzles and playing with her toys. I got to work on some stuff around the house while Max was with Nana or napping. Josh and I took advantage of Nana being here and went a date night. It was nice to go out just the two of us.

jan update 078

So yeah Pepper doesn’t do snow and cold

Nana feeding Max so that I could get ready to go.

After Josh and I got home, we got Max ready for bed before we got to turn in. Nana left in the early morning hours. Bella was sad, but we quickly turned her mood around telling her we were going on a family adventure. Josh had some farm equipment he wanted to check out in Iowa, so we took a road trip. It was Max’s first and he did great. Bella did awesome too! It was nice to go as a family and see new town. But Iowa really is a boring state!  I didn’t take too many pictures since we spent most of it in the car
