So Tuesday morning, while in the shower, I decided we should spend the night in the hotel across the street from Gilda’s club. It has a pool and right there, so we could have fun in Madison but still be close to the hospital should something happen to Josh. Well my plan didn’t’ work out just right, as all the hotels close to Gilda’s were booked. So we found one about 10 mins away, which worked out ok anyhow.
Josh took Bella with him to get pig feed while I packed up for all of us. Max saw what I was doing and was thinking he was going for a sleep over at Nana’s house. when I told him it was for a surprised he said “I’m very excited momma” I packed up including bed stuff, and hide it in our bedroom before Josh and bella got home. I even got stuff picked up and laundry started. Go me!
Once they got home, we did a quick lunch and hoped that Max would have gotten a nap. That didn’t work, so that means Josh didn’t really get one either. Josh gave up and we headed out about 1:30pm. We decided to stop at a “dream park” on the way to the hotel to let the kids run around outside before the storms came in. That went ok for us but great for the kids. Josh struggles with keeping warm, and forgot a jacket, so ya. By 3:00 we headed to our hotel. We got there and the kids were so excited. We got unloaded and they were tired so I let them veg on the couch while Josh rested and warmed up in our room. We had a suite so separate living area from the bedroom.
We decided to hit up the pool for a little bit before supper and Gilda’s club. The kids had fun, until we turned on the water feature..which scared poor max. he’s struggling with loud noises and sudden loud noises. Not sure the cause of that, but that meant the poor guy wasn’t able to go down the water slide. His sister though had a blast with it. He did play in the water though. We had the place to ourselves. The kids weren’t happy when we had to head out to go eat though.
We decided to go to Noodles again. We got there just as the rain started. IT got really bad when we got to Gilda’s. Groups went well. I’m really enjoying my group and the people in it. I was worried I wouldn’t fit in, but I feel like I do. It’s also nice to have people who relate to what I’m going through. I know I can talk to just about any of my friends, but unless you have been in the caretakers shoes, you don’t really get it. The kids had fun too. I never really know what they do, but they are always happy and eager to go back. We left there and it was so wet everywhere! One road we drove on the water was up to the bottom of my car.. it was crazy how flooded it was, but thankfully my tires kept the water way and us on the road. I love my car.
Once we got back to the hotel, we went back down to the pool This time I went in the water with the kids so we hit up the big pool. This was fun except I forgot Max’s wings, so he couldn’t be on his own. He can almost stand a whole head above water in the the 3 foot. I came up between his mouth and nose. Bella was on tiptoes in the 3ft 9in without a problem. We also played in the kiddies area again until other people came in and it was way past bedtime.
Getting the kids ready for bed was rough because they were so wound up. Josh wasn’t feeling good, so I had three to take care off. Kind of not my idea vacation, even if I was just one night away.
Somehow sleep happened because Josh got up with max at 6am in the morning and went down for breakfast. Then they came back and we all went down at 730am for Bella and me to eat. Next up was another trip to the pool and back for bath while Josh took a nap. I got everything packed up and we headed out at 10am. Poor Bella had to be at the dentist at 11 and Josh needed lab work down at 1115am
Bella did good at the dentist for her fillings. They only did two without needing to numb her. The rest will be done in three other appointments. Poor girl. Max wouldn’t nap due to a short nap in the car, so we were in for long afternoon. my mom came to take the kids for a couple hours while we tired to figure out what to do about josh. His fever returned and then went away, but we weren’t sure if we were up for an ER visit or not. We also got the news that he has no immune system, so that scared us, as that hasn’t happened before in all the times he took chemo.
Everyday is new challenges and suprises. We are slowly learning what we can and can’t do anymore. We pray that we are able to overcome some of these challenges and let the kids have happy fun times.
